TL;DR: Slovenia is a hiking paradise, much like Austria but less expensive and just as tranquil. Lake Bled gets all the press, but just 30 min away is the much prettier and more wild Lake Bohinj. In my experience, the Julian Alps are very underrated for Nature loving travelers.
