Kleinwalsertal Austria
This hidden Alpine valley has a lot to offer and one of my favorite places to visit, especially in Autumn when the colors are iridescent. The gondolas allow you to get really high and hike along the ridge between Germany and Austria with magnificent views. The food is not as good as the Dolomites, but it’s still awesome to get a full meal on the top of a mountain.

TL;DR: Kleinwalsertal Travel = Ski and Hiking Heaven in the Allgauer Alpen

Pros: Stunning mountains, fast gondolas, mountain top huts, views
Cons: Difficult to get to, limited cuisine selections (german mainly), limited parking

Best for: Summer season travel for people like love to hike. Winter season travel for skiing. Cheap hub to explore German and Austrian Alps.

Not great for: Hop on, hop off bus tour type travelers, non-walkers. People who hate hills. Mud season travel.

Munich Airport (German: Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport) (IATA: MUC) is an airport serving Southern German and Upper Alps.

Here’s my mini travel guide complete with where to stay, things to do, daytrips etc based on my experience eating, hiking and around Oberstdorf in October, June and September.

It’s a great Alpine area that doesn’t get press like Garmisch’s Lake Eibsee or Innsbruck, but has a lot to offer the seasoned traveler.

Short on time? No problemo, here’s my favorite things to do and where to stay.
