The Niederwalddenkmal is a monument built as a symbol of unity in the German Empire. I love the breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley from the observation deck. The surrounding park and trails also provide a great chance for a leisurely walk, with lovely scenery to accompany your journey.

Sometimes, I just want to sit back, relax, and let someone else show me the beauty of a place. That’s where boat tours come in. In Assmannshausen, boat tours on the Rhine River are a fantastic way to take in the picturesque landscapes and learn about local folklore.

I hopped on one of these tours and was treated to breathtaking views of the town’s quaint architecture, vineyards, and the majestic Loreley rock formation.

As a wine enthusiast, I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to try some local wines. I visited Weingut Krone, where I got to taste five different wines for just 8 Euros. Not only were the wines fantastic, but I also got a great deal! (And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t love that?)

Another must-visit spot for wine lovers is Weinhaus August Kesseler. This winery offers an excellent variety of vineyards to explore and taste the unique flavors of Assmannshausen.

As someone who enjoys exploring local cuisines, I checked out a few traditional restaurants during my stay. One of my favorites was Ristorante Pizzeria La Romantica, which served mouthwatering Italian dishes and pizza. Let me tell you, it quickly became my go-to place in the town.

Another gem I discovered was BaBuFu, a spot serving Turkish and healthy cuisine. With its great food and beautiful views, it made for a memorable dining experience.

Now, if there’s one event that has captured my heart and left me in awe, it’s the Rhine in Flames. This exceptional spectacle of fireworks and twinkling lights brings the Rhine River to life. The reflection off the water combined with the jaw-dropping display of pyrotechnics truly creates a magical ambiance I just can’t forget.

As a bonus, some celebrations even include incredible activities during the day, like cruising along the Rhine River and soaking in the mesmerizing view of the Loreley bluff.

Best Riverside Hotel

When I want a more modern experience, the Hotel Under the Linden seems like the perfect choice. At only 0.5 mi from the chairlift, I can almost reach out and touch those vines from my hotel window.

Best Overall Hotel – On the Vineyard!!!

For those times when I want a more intimate and homely feel, I found this gem – Alte Bauernshanke Wellness and Wine. It’s a mere 0.04 mi away, making it difficult to beat when it comes to convenience.

All in all, there’s no shortage of great lodging options right near the chair lift, making it an easy trip back after a day of adventures. Sweet dreams!

Getting There

I recently flew into Frankfurt am Main, and let me tell you, getting to Assmannshausen was a breeze! I had the option to either rent a car and drive for about 50 minutes or take a train from the airport. I opted for the train ride (serviced by DBBahn.de), as it allowed me to sit back and enjoy the beautiful German countryside. Trust me, either way, it’s a scenic journey.

Aside from these fun options, there were buses and ferries available for those who prefer a more conventional mode of transportation. No matter how you choose to get around, exploring Assmannshausen is an adventure you won’t want to miss!
